Listen I don't care what you guys do with your spare time. Meet up, masturbate, idc. But we won't back these "meetings" unless saint decides it's a good idea (which it really isn't)
Staff Meetings (should this be here?)

I disagree with this whole idea. This in a tl;dr is basically "saint pls tell us how to be admin"
He has a lot on his plate already. He pays for the servers, he manages the teamspeak channel, he reviews applicants for possible staff members, manages members, and processes donations. I don't think burdening him with hosting staff meetings would be a good idea. We are supposed to manage the servers based on the rules and, to an extent, our own judgement. If you need saint to hold your hand and tell you what you're supposed to do, then maybe you aren't cut to be staff. As far as suggestions go, that's what the forums are for. They eventually get read and decided on.

Unless you've actually been a staff member of a community that has had staff meetings I don't think you should judge it before you've even tried it, or unless there is some other reason like you don't like using the mic or you don't think you could make the meetings then you should be a little more optimistic.
It's more then just being told what to do because saint doesn't even have to be a part of it, we are pretty self sufficient ourselves or so I hope, although it's hard to say as we've never really proved it. But this does bring up a bigger issue which could be the workload on saint, as he's basically the scripter, coder, staff manager, server manager, forum manager, member manager and etc. perhaps saint should open more positions to allow other people to review staff applications since if it follows all the application rules and gets all the vouches it needs than its pretty simple that'd it'd be accepted. Also I'm sure if we tried we could definitely find some more scripters and coders to help out just by even asking all the people that frequent the server, which could also help with the server suggestions and cutting down on the time it takes for them to get looked over. But all these things that we talk about in these thread comments would be exactly what we would talk about in the meetings, and then if you ask "then what's the reason if we are doing it right now?" It's because using actual words and trying to show people your ideas is much better using a voice then typing up a post, people can type whatever they want but talking will get people to understand each other and listen a lot better. Much more will be talked about then just what we say in the comments of threads, like people who never even thought of a suggestion or idea, after hearing everyone else's will probably come up with one themselves, and people who have started to get less and less attached to the server, will most likely be noticed when they never show up to the meetings. I've been an admin on a server before which has had staff meetings and as a community of about 30 different staff members even today I could name every one of them because those staff meetings made everyone feel like they themselves were making a positive difference on something they cared about, even if all they were doing was listening to everyone else, it all helped in one way or another. (I'm gonna find ya I'm gonna getcha, getcha, getcha, getcha) |
