I might not be active on the servers that much anymore, but I am still relatively active on the forums. I read most of the threads here. And the more I read, the more I am disgusted. I mean, this community was never exactly... how do I put this... tactful when it came to dealing with certain issues. Well, most issues. But at least people weren't always assholes on purpose. What am I talking about? The recent string of reports that have been filed here are simply appalling. Why is this? Because the defense for a good percentage of them is that "it's just a joke," or "we were just playing around," etc. Example?
http://lennyfacegaming.org/showthread.php?tid=383
What's worse is that more often than not, the rest of the community stands up for the accused, not the accuser. Especially when Pierce does it. Yes, for some reason, a large part of the community seems to have turned against Pierce. Do I understand why? Well, most people seem to feel that Pierce can be a jerk when he handles things, and he basically said that that's correct (http://lennyfacegaming.org/showthread.php?tid=382). Here's the thing, everyone seems to not like his because of this, but when something bad is done to him, or he tries to take any action (http://lennyfacegaming.org/showthread.php?tid=379 & the first link) everyone tells him that he should be able to take the joke(s), or whatever, and just accept whatever's happened, despite the fact that the people saying it are only saying it because THEY CAN'T DO THE SAME THING WHEN PIERCE IS supposedly RUDE TO THEM! One of my least favorite things is hypocrisy, and if you're telling other people to be able to tolerate bad/rude things happening to them, THEN YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO IT YOURSELF!
For argument's sake, let's just say that Pierce IS really that bad. Does that mean legitimate reports he files have no merit? Possibly, if he reports everyone for the smallest, insignificant detail. But as far as I can tell, he hasn't. In this thread: http://lennyfacegaming.org/showthread.php?tid=379 Cactus says, and I quote, "zombie only broke rules that effected u to piss u off cuz u were mean to him. he didnt hurt anyone else (except maybe shovel)." Where do I start? How about with the fact that rule breaking is still rule breaking, no matter what reason you have, or what the other person did to you. Also, breaking rules to piss someone off when they were mean to you... how does that make anything better? If anything, it makes you look like a vengeful person who can't let anything go, exactly what some of you are telling Pierce not to be, despite being them yourselves. Not to mention that this... rule breaking potentially hurt another person who had nothing to do with anything. Also, is Pierce in the right to accuse Shovel of doing bath salts? Well, I don't entirely understand what this means, but I assume people can get high off of bath salts. I have never heard of this happening, I don't even know what bath salts are. But I heard on the news the other day that some person got high off of nutmeg, so I now believe that it is possible to get high off of anything. Anyway, back to my point. Because Pierce is (apparently) in the wrong for saying this, does that mean everyone against him is automatically in the right? Of course not. Purely black and white issues are rare in the real world, usually both sides contain some right and some wrong. Why am I talking about ethics here? We're all adults (or close enough) here, we shouldn't need a lecture on this sort of thing. It's what you tell a three year old. Moving on.
http://lennyfacegaming.org/showthread.php?tid=383 I don't even know what to say. Aside from, what the hell? Considering everything I've seen in the past few weeks, people are clearly not a fan of Pierce. Does this mean that they have a right to ruin 20+ hours of work he's done? Okay, let's assume that everything Pierce said was over exaggerated or made up (not saying it is, this is just for the sake of argument). Instead of handling the situation in any better way, Storm calls him "Jiggly 2.0," and Thick actually defends their actions. Then he apparently brags about having all of Pierce's stuff. Maybe it wasn't a brag, but why add that? It doesn't help your argument in the slightest. Then Storm makes a dick joke, says tat the entire ordeal was a joke, and to grow up and deal with his own shit. Let's break this down. First off, why is everyone obsessed with dick jokes on the internet? Moving on. I'm pretty sure that anyone will agree that banning someone as a joke is an abuse of power. Bans should not be thrown around that lightly, and should never be used against anyone who isn't breaking any major rules. Even if you count minor rules as ban-worthy, the closest thing Pierce did to breaking any rule would be arguing (justifiably, I might add) with an admin. And now onto the final part. By telling Pierce to deal with his own shit in this particular scenario, you are basically implying that it is Pierce's fault that you killed him. That's what you were trying to say, right? Or were you referring to when Pierce said that he has his own problems to deal with, in which case, THAT MAKES NO SENSE! Pierce was complaining about you killing him, and merely mentioned his personal problems. If he created an entire thread detailing everything wrong in his life, then this comment would be justified. But that isn't what pierce is doing here. He is talking about a community related problem, not a personal problem. Also, how do you know that he isn't "dealing with his own shit" at other times? How do you know he isn't trying to do that when he's not playing? GMod is not a place to solve problems, it's a place to temporarily get away from them for a break. That's the exact reason that I created http://lennyfacegaming.org/showthread.php?tid=256. Why does almost no one else seem to get this?
Well, that paragraph is big. But I'm not even close to done. Next, Pierce says how Storm made a suicide joke towards him. So what does Storm do? He defends it with, and I quote, "Hell yah I did, why does this shock anyone I probably say that more then Cactus complains.
That is also a joke if you can't take a joke maybe you shouldn't be in LFG you were just complaining about how Fathergoose got mad at you over a joke. And yet here you are doing the exact same thing." Let's start with the second part this time, because it might provide a better prospective. Is Pierce in the right for complaining about how some other person got mad at him over a joke? Was that joke a suicide joke aimed at someone who actually has issues with suicide? Not as far as I can tell. I don't remember which thread it was in, but I believe Pierce just made fun of this member's name. To get morbid for a second, this is the same as comparing someone cutting off your small toe, and someone shooting you in the face. Not all assaults are the same, just like how not all jokes are the same. Again, why am I explaining something that a ten year old understands? If you can't take a joke... I'm going to stop right there because I can't finish that sentence. First off, if telling a possibly suicidal person to drink bleach is a joke, then shooting someone's face off in my example from earlier can be considered roughhousing. Now, telling someone to leave the community because they can't handle a joke... since I've already pointed out that that isn't even a joke by any definition (except your own) I won't say it again. I don't know about everybody, but I think that many of us, including myself, joined the community to meet new people, possibly make friends, and have a fun time hanging out on the servers. Does Pierce help this? Not necessarily. Does he deserve to have his Minecraft stuff destroyed if he doesn't leave and be told to kill himself? Not in the slightest.
Storm, I don't know you very well, but if this is how you treat everyone, then I'm glad I don't. Saint, even though you didn't do anything wrong, you do have a tendency to point out minor things, such as how I never mentioned that you were assured that Zombies would never break the rules again, instead of focussing on the main issue. Cactus, I know you are only trying to help the server grow by recruiting all of these people, and I don't know your exact methods, but you should play with these people at least two or three times before officially recruiting them (if you aren't already. If that's exactly what you're doing then ignore what I said to you). Pierce, you still have at least one friend who will stand by you. I hope that there are more.
