Demonik just posted about adding the Doom 3 weapons again and I felt like doing a bit more analysis then just a sentence or two. I also found a few other addons that fill the nice the Doom weapons did without breaking all of the current PVP balancing we have.
I am skipping all of the traditional style weapons as I find them somewhat boring and because CW 2.0 works better then most of them. If you find something that truly adds up and can stand next to CW, suggest it in the comments or make a thread yourself.
My other big note is that most mods have some form of BFG or equivalent, so I am not going to exclude mods for such. They can probably be nerfed and if not then restricted. Besides, you have the boosted artillery cannon.
This spoiler contains all of the "honorable mentions" that I feel didn't make the cut for full discussion. Beware there is a lot in there as there is a lot of bad weapon addons. There are some popular ones in there so check them out yourselves if you want, maybe you will find them more redeeming then I did.
Here is all of the addons I consider worthy of considering adding to LFG.
Doom 3 - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f...=210267782 - The first Addon to get into would be the Doom 3 weapons. It was previously on the server and somewhat liked, and was mainly lost due to disinterest after it was nerfed. Given that we added the more powerful toybox weapons we can probably add it again without nerfs as it is no longer the most broken thing to exist.
Pros -
it is known to LFG
Somewhat Light
Interesting Plasmagun
Cons -
somewhat small, the bullet weapons are overshadowed hard by CW2.0
Moot Points -
If we are wanting unique stuff i suggest the Unreal Tournament addon suggested below, it has more unique content to add.
Serious Sam - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f...=258523980 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f...=503138986 - The other set of addons that was known to LFG was the Serious Sam addons with Serious Sam 1 and 2. They are another set that was added before but removed for being too powerful. I still feel that they don't fit with the pvp environment and are meant to be more of a crowd control system. The unique weapons that they add are also the ones that were most hated for being OP such as the laser cannon, rocket machine gun, and ship cannon.
Pros -
also known to LFG
light
less broken because of Toybox weapons
Cons -
Still broken because its not meant for Pvp its meant for a 1 man army
what isn't broken probably has a better CW equivalent
Doom 2016 shotguns - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f...=852994938 - If you just wanted a good shotgun to fill the void of the super shotgun I have found a small addon that fills that void. Someone mostly ported the shotgun from Doom 2016 in all of its glory. It also has the super shotgun and the guns with addons, but it was somewhat poorly put together so the extras are somehow worse. The shotgun itself is somehow balanced by having a high, mobile firerate as well as terrible base accuracy.
Pros -
very small
good shotgun
very good shotgun
Cons
poorly made
Moot Points -
somehow made a travesty of the supershotgun which hurts me.
Darkens Sci Fi Weaponry - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f...=420970650 - A fairly well made addon with very nice looking weapons. If you wanted / A E S T H E T I C / then this would be the addon to go for. Some definitely needs balancing, but thats not the focus of this addon. Of note is that it somehow caused no frame drops despite its complexity for me, but I'm unsure of how toasters would handle it.
Pros -
looks really nice
balancing hurts it less
very different from what we already have
Cons -
May lag out some people on toaster computers, I need someone else to test this
Moot Points -
NGL, no idea what some of these do besides look amazing, still looks amazing
Quake 4 weapons - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f...1341861055 - Something fairly distinct from what we currently have that looks nice. It looks and works virtually perfectly, my only caveat is that the railgun for some reason kills my framerate (I have a 1080), but snipers probably cover its usage better.
Pros -
very unique, minimal overlap with current weapons
looks nice
Cons -
major minor bug with one nice weapon
Moot points -
somewhat larger compared to PS1 era weapon addons
Team Fortress 2 Weapons - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f...=949733637 - Tried and true from another source game. It also works probably as well as possible outside of TF2, the only overt Bethesda bug I saw was that the minigun again doesn't spin and seems to be a auto shotgun for some reason. Minus that weapon everything else seems to work perfectly.
Pros -
Very well put together, minus one weapon, hell even the Medigun beam somehow works correctly
Well balanced both for itself and compared to CW, even if it deals more damage it is burst damage and is vulnerable if the first shot misses compared to weapons with full auto
Cons -
none I can think of
Moot points -
The invis watch will be annoying, but it can probably be nerfed if not removed, and is more annoying to use since it doesnt auto swap weapons
Unreal Tournament - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f...=189453748 - While it is a bit unheard of I feel that it could really add a lot of interesting content to LFG. It is very well put together for what it is, the only minor problem it seems to have is causing script errors with its melee weapon, which can probably just be ignored and restricted for better weapons. All of the weapons seem to have a secondary firing mode which allows for more interesting tactical use. It also offers the translocator for more interesting movement, and if Saint was inclined to unrestrict them, spawners for pickups that would allow for mapmaking (don't worry they only spawn a fake pickup and give something on pickup, will not cause infinite lag).
Pros -
very light
well put together
fills an unfilled role
unique weaponry
offers mapmaking technologies and new forms of movement (if saint is willing to un admin restrict the spawners)
Cons -
one broken weapon
Moot points -
I kind of got tunnel vision for this, maybe you can find more negatives.
The balancing of the more powerful healing spawners (go above 100 health/armor) is debatable. They could be left restricted and the addon would still have a lot of regular content. At the same time whenever we managed to find a god charger in a map that let you get 200 armor no one batted an eye, I would consider it neat.
If anyone has any other suggestions add them below. I don't really have anything else to say minus the relevant polls, so knowing that I am just going to move on to them.
